The high school Japanese language （国語） subject, “Advanced Classics （古典探究）” （which started in 2023） was established as a new elective course subject （選択科目） after a common compulsory subject “Language Culture” （共通必履修科目） in accordance with the High School Curriculum Guidelines （高等学校学習指導要領） announced in 2018. This subject is a newly established elective course with an emphasis on fostering qualities and abilities to understand the importance of the classics through independent reading and deepening of the classics, and to explore the significance and value of the classics for society, in order to deepen the “understanding of traditional language and culture” among the qualities and abilities fostered in the common compulsory course “Language Culture.”Considering Japanese Chinese literature （日本漢文）, postmodern literary language, Chinese poetry, etc., which have been included in classical ancient Japanese and Chinese literature （古文・漢文）, and checking the High School Curriculum Guidelines and the Commentary to the School Curriculum Guidelines （高等学校学習指導要領解説）, we promoted the study sectional research meeting and focused on the teaching materials of Language Culture.Here, I would like to share my personal thoughts on the three teaching materials below: 1. Concerning the poem Fengqiao Ye Bo （楓橋夜泊） by Zhang Ji （張継） of the Tang （唐）Dynasty:Because this poem is particularly popular among Tang Dynasty poetry, it is very unfortunate that this poem is used as teaching material in only one textbook of the common compulsory subject “Language Culture” that all students take, and in two textbooks of “Advanced Classics.” I would like to examine the various learning possibilities of this poem as a teaching material.2. Concerning the first and second of the poems Shikun Jusshu （思君十首） by Nakano Shoyo （中野逍遙）of the Meiji （明治） Period: Nakano Shoyo was born in the 3rd year of the Keio （慶応） era and was in the same class in the prep school of Tokyo University （東京大学予備門） as Masaoka Shiki （正岡子規） and Natsume Soseki （夏目漱石）, but died at the young age of 27 years old. Since it is a poem that expresses the feelings of love in a straightforward manner, it is considered to be a diverse teaching material that can be developed in various ways, including the creation of translated poems.3. Concerning the Infant Emperor’s Entrance to the Water:“Dannoura （壇ノ浦）” is the place of the destruction of the Taira family （平家） in the Genpei Makoto HORIOn the Classical Chinese Teaching Materialsin the Advanced Classics （古典探究） Textbook149
