213The Relationship between Social Work and Shido (guidance) in Schools: Focusing on the Narratives of Administrative Teachers and Temporary School Social WorkersThe purpose of this paper is to identify the relationship that develops between the social work developed by school social workers (SSWr) in schools and the shido (guidance) of teachers. Social work, which has its own targets, methods, and values, and develops individualized support, does not necessarily have a consistent relationship with the shido (guidance) provided by teachers, who build holistic relationships with students based on collectivity. Rather, there may be some inconsistency between the two, which have different orientations. This relationship between social work and shido (guidance) in schools has not been the focus in pedagogy and sociology of education that focuses on the roles of teachers and order in schools, nor has it been sufficiently focused on in social welfare research that aims to be useful in practice. Therefore, in this paper, qualitative coding was conducted on the results of interviews with three SSWr and four teachers who have administrative experience and work with SSWr. The data decontextualized by qualitative coding were recontextualized by progressively structuring concepts based on the research objectives described above. As a result, the support provided as social work was conceptualized as the expanding third-party support for families (4.) and the increase in number of persons watching over the students (5.). And while the former was in a consistent relationship parallel to shido (guidance) (6-1.), the latter did not conform (6-2.). According to subsequent discussions, among social work services, the support that is consistent with shido (guidance) in school is the support that takes place outside of school, while the support that causes non-conformance is the support that takes place inside of school, pointing out the existence of a self-contradictory constraint that SSWr can only move freely outside of school.Takahiro FUJIMOTO
