2. Research of History of Asian Education at JSHSE3. Tendency of Asian-related Articles Published in the History of Education: Research Bulletin of the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education in Recent YearsThis section will discuss the trends of articles related to the history of education in Asia that have appeared in the History of Education: Research Bulletin of the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education in recent years.(1) There is a decrease in the number of articles related to the history of Chinese education.197As academic research in Japan progressed in the postwar period, the study of the history of education developed, and the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education (JSHSE) was established in 1956. The JSHSE is composed of researchers in the three fields of the history of Japanese education: the history of education in Asia, Europe, and the United States. Thus, the organization is divided into three divisions: Japan, Asia, and the West.The first research conference, held in 1957, aimed to bring together researchers in the history of Japanese, Chinese, and Western education, collect their research results in their respective fields; and discuss common topics, such as the methodology of education history (Ken Ishikawa, opening remarks at the first conference).There were six research papers in Studies in the History of Education: Research Bulletin of the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education , Vol. 1 (1958), two Japanese, three Western, and three Asian.For example, “On the Tsungtsu School Education Prior to the Abolition of the R’ochii System at the End of the Ching Period” (Akigoro Taga). On Luishu,”(Tadao Sakai),” and “A Study of Education and Caste System in India” (Akitaka Fuji) were included in the History of Education: Research Bulletin of the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education .In addition, seven papers in Volume 2 consisted of three Japanese, two Western, and two Asian papers -“Undercurrents of Educational Thought in the Early Stage of the Republic of China” (Kohdo Omura) and “On the Soh-tang in Korea during the 18th Century” (Manabu Watanabe).It is clear that research of history on Asian education steadily produced research results and that the field of the history of education in Asia played a vital research role in JSHSE.However, the number of articles published in the latest issue of the History of Education: Research Bulletin of the Japan Society for the Historical Studies of Education
